AI search is rewriting the rules of marketing visibility. The users are not limited to traditional SERPs such as People also ask, organic listings or discussion & forums. AI Platforms like ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity are now answering millions of queries daily and often recommending brands before users even click a single link.
Are AI tools replacing Traditional Search Tools?
The future of AI has already arrived and brands must be prepared before it’s too late. And brands that fail to adapt are already seeing the consequences.
Recent article by Tor Constantino in Forbes concluded that AI can cause 15-64% decline in organic traffic as AI generated results can displace traditional rankings.
How are Brands performing in AI conversations?
At GrowByData, we’ve been tracking how brands show up across these LLMs. What we found is eye-opening:
Some brands are everywhere. Others? Completely invisible.
So, we built LLM Intelligence solution, a new product that gives marketing and strategy teams visibility into their AI strategy.
LLM Intelligence: What You Can Track and Measure
- Which LLM platforms mention your brand
- Which prompts trigger visibility
- How you stack up against competitors in real AI conversations
We just completed a deep dive into the automotive space. The gap between leaders and laggards is widening and fast.
If your team is still asking:
- Are we showing up in AI results?
- What are these models saying about us?
You don’t have to guess anymore. You can measure it.
Visibility: Not All Brands Are Created Equal
Over the past 30 days, we analyzed how often major automotive brands appeared in AI-generated answers across platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google.
The results? A few brands are dominating the conversation and most are barely showing up.
- The leading brand achieved a Visibility Score of 39.5
- Most others clustered around 15 or lower
That means the top brand is referenced nearly 3X more often than its closest competitors.
And if your brand isn’t showing up for high-intent prompts like:
- “Best family SUV under $40K”
- “Which brand offers the best safety features?”
- “Top-rated tech in 2025 vehicles”
Then you’re not just losing visibility but you’re absent from the conversation.
Because if AI can’t find you, customers won’t either.
Sentiment Drives Recommendation Not Just Mentions
Being mentioned is step one. But how are you being described? That’s everything. AI recommendations are based on tone and context.
GrowByData’s LLM Intelligence calculates a Favorability Score that reflects not just mentions, but tone.
For example:
- A top-performing brand had a favorability score of 34.41 driven by positive coverage around Interior & Technology, Fuel Economy, and Safety.
- However, in several cases, brands were being mentioned with neutral or even negative tones around features like pricing, launch dates, or feature clarity.
Our sentiment analysis also tracks exactly which product features are being praised or questioned.
- “Features” and “Safety” trended positive
- “Price” and “Fuel Economy” drew mixed reviews
Prompt Coverage: Why Some Brands Keep Showing Up
Imagine asking ChatGPT:
- “What’s the best SUV for families?”
- “How does [Brand A] compare to [Brand B]?”
- “What’s the fuel economy of [Model X]?”
In prompt after prompt, a small group of brands repeatedly surfaced often regardless of question nuance. This indicates that LLMs have developed “preferred brand patterns” based on what they’ve been trained on.
One brand was named in more than 20 prompts, covering topics like towing capacity, resale value, safety for teens, and fuel efficiency while many others were never surfaced once.
Citations: Reddit Is Your New SEO
So where are LLMs getting this information?
The top citation source wasn’t a brand website, it was Reddit.
That’s right. User reviews, forums, and peer conversations are becoming the source of truth for AI models.
Other top domains include:
- CarAndDriver.com
- KBB.com
- Edmunds.com
- Wikipedia
In fact, our analysis showed that the top-performing brand had 72 unique citation domains influencing its AI visibility more than any other competitor.
If your product isn’t discussed, reviewed, or mentioned in these ecosystems, AI won’t know you exist.
