New in GrowByData Compass: Four Comprehensive Reports for Amazon Competitor Analysis

Compass Amazon Analytics Benchmark Banner

Amazon competitor analysis is now built into GrowByData Compass. A new Marketplace section adds four Amazon reports that show which brands lead Amazon search for the keywords you track, whether organic results or ads put them there, and how their listings, merchandising and ad titles compare with yours.

You’ll find them under Marketplace > Amazon. For now, the Marketplace section covers Amazon.

What’s in the new Amazon reports?

GrowByData Compass now includes four Amazon reports: Amazon Competitive Landscape, Amazon Listing Insights, Amazon Merchandising Insights and Amazon Ad Title Insights. Each one answers a different competitive question, and together they show who leads Amazon search, how they got there and what their listings look like.

Report The question it answers
Amazon Competitive Landscape Who leads Amazon search, and through which placement?
Amazon Listing Insights What do the most visible products look like?
Amazon Merchandising Insights How do brands compare on price, reviews and shipping?
Amazon Ad Title Insights How are competitors wording their Amazon ads?

The reports share a common set of filters, including location, device, brand or non-brand keywords, category and holiday, plus a date range.

Amazon Competitive Landscape

The Amazon Competitive Landscape report shows which brands hold the most visibility across your tracked Amazon searches, and how that changes over time. You get share of voice and average rank by brand, with trends you can view by day, week, month, quarter or year.

It also breaks visibility down by placement, so you can see whether a brand’s visibility comes from organic results or from ads. That’s the part most teams will use.

Placement What it is What a gain tells you
Organic Amazon’s unpaid search results. The brand is earning visibility without paying for the placement.
Sponsored Products Pay-per-click ads for individual products, shown in and alongside Amazon search results. The brand is likely putting more ad spend behind its products on your tracked searches.
Sponsored Display Display ads bought through Amazon Ads, tracked where they appear in Amazon search results. The brand is likely paying for display placements on your tracked searches.

Two competitors can gain visibility for very different reasons, and each calls for a different response from your team.

Amazon Listing Insights

Amazon Listing Insights shows the products that appear most often across your tracked searches, with their price, star rating and review count. It’s a quick way to see what the most visible products in your category look like, and how your own listings compare.

Amazon Merchandising Insights

Amazon Merchandising Insights compares brands on what shoppers look at before they click: price, star ratings, reviews and shipping offers. It also flags tracked keywords where a brand has no listing at all, so you can see where competitors appear and you don’t.

Amazon Ad Title Insights

Amazon Ad Title Insights looks at the wording in Amazon ad titles. It shows which terms most advertisers in your category use, which terms only a few brands use, how long titles run, and when brands start changing their messaging. If you already work on Google Shopping product title optimization, the same thinking applies here.

How can teams use the reports for Amazon competitor analysis?

The Amazon reports in GrowByData Compass let agencies and brand teams run Amazon competitive reviews the same way every time, with the same competitors, keywords, filters and date ranges. That makes changes from one review to the next easier to spot and easier to explain to a client or leadership.

  • Quarterly business reviews: benchmark a brand against named competitors and export the tables into the deck.
  • Paid versus organic budget calls: show your paid search team whether a competitor’s gain came from Sponsored Products, Sponsored Display or organic results.
  • Holiday reads: use the holiday filter to see whether a shift during a sales event held after it ended.
  • Coverage gaps: find tracked keywords where your brand has no listing.
